Marines & Sailors Marching

At the head of the parade, automobiles carrying visiting dignitaries led the way.  President and Mrs. Harding, Colonel Sherill,  the Tercentenary Celebration Chairman W. S. Kyle, and Secret Service agents sat in the first car.  Others included in the procession were the governor of Massachusetts, Channing H. Cox and his wife, Vice President and Mrs. Calvin Coolidge, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge, governors from the other New England states. military officers, and town officials. Marching behind the cars were police and military units, acting as an escort to the President. War veterans made up the second division of the parade, including Grand Army of the Republic (Civil War) veterans, Spanish War veterans, the American Legion, Veterans Corps of Artillery, and British military and naval veterans.
