First Prize, Commercial Float, Plymouth Cordage Comapny

The Old Colony Memorial also provides us with a description of the last stage of the parade, which represented "Industrial Plymouth."

The list of floats from local companies included contributions from:  "George Mabbett & Sons Co., Standish Worsted Company, Puritan Mills, Plymouth Cordage Company, Plymouth Electric Light Company, Plymouth Gas Light Company, Deacon Brothers, Sinclair Refining Company, Armour & Co., S.S. Pierce Company, Atherton Furniture Co., Louis Knife & Son, and the Modern Bakery Company."

Although many of the commercial floats featured people dressed in historic costumes, unlike the community floats they did not try to recreate historic episodes but instead tried to find some way to work their product into a colonial setting.  The banner on the Cordage's winning float read:  "Rope was First to Come to Plymouth in 1620.  Pilgrim Ideals and Industry Have Since Made Plymouth The Home of the World's Largest Cordage Works."
